Glass Blowing Shop

About the Glass Blower

Chris ( Professor Draggie) has been glassblowing for about 7 years now. Chris started glass blowing  in 2017 after suffering a stroke and not being able to pick up his hammer. His doctors suggest trying bead making. So chris sat down at a small torch and started making beads, as he grow more and more fond of glass his friends asked him to start making 420 products and chris started expanding his shop. in 2024 Peaceful Hollows asked him to be a professor and take the glass show on the road!

Tools of the Glass Shop

Torch

The torch uses oxygen and propane to reach temps of over 4000 degrees ,  we work the glass at about 2000 degrees and has the consistency of honey. For all the people that know about torches this torch is a red max stacks.

Kiln

The kiln is a major part of all glassblowers!  glass has to be cooled very slowly this kiln made by Jer-Ken Kilns and is called the Chili Pepper this kiln starts at 1200 degrees and over  24 hours  brings the temp of the glass to room temp.

for smaller beads and in the field we use ceramic Fiber blanket ( called Kaeowool)  to do the same thing without electricity

Glass

The glass we use is called borosilicate glass also know as Pyrex. this glass is able to withstand temperature changes and is very strong.

Color

Our glass rods start as clear glass, we add color by rod, or powdered glass called frit.

Colors are made by mixing metallic and rock elements with the glass for example copper makes green, red is made with iron and the most expensive color is pink and is made from 18 karat gold

Hand Tools

Most of the shaping of the glass is done by using Graphite ( the same thing used in pencils) by molds of different shapes and small paddles. some of the tools are stainless steel and brass

Demos

as of 2016 we have partnered with Peaceful Hollows and now we do live demos in the field, teaching everything about this amazing art! would you like to have a Glass blower at your next event ? contact us we love to help
